Sweet, sticky cinnamon flavored buns, this is a great recipe for kids to make

Baking Cinnamon Swirl buns for breakfast is a great way to start a the day, especially at weekend when there’s a few extra spare minutes in the mornings!

These cinnamon swirls take no more than 10 minutes to prepare, and 25 minutes to cook – that’s just over half an hour until you can indulge in the deliciousness of these sweet & sticky buns!

We’ve made these Cinnamon Swirl Buns with both a yeast dough and this no yeast dough. Both are equally delicious, although the yeast dough is somewhat lighter, it does take longer to make as you have to wait for the dough to rise!

  • Favorite breakfast & lunch treat
  • Kids are able to make these buns almost entirely on their own
  • Try adding some grated orange into the recipe for extra flavor

Notes

You could also drizzle some icing over the top to give a little extra deliciousness before serving! To do this all you need is some sifted icing sugar, mixed with a little boiled water, until it's runny - use a fork to drizzle the icing over and back on the top of the cinnamon swirls.

Ingredients Ingredients

  • Self Raising Flour [13 oz / 375 g]
  • Ground Cinnamon [2 teaspoons]
  • Caster Sugar (fine sugar) [2 oz / 50 g]
  • Butter [2 oz / 50 g]
  • Egg, beaten [1]
  • Milk [7 fl. oz / 200 ml]

Preparation & Cooking

  1. Place the flour, cinnamon and sugar into a large mixing bowl.

  2. Mix together, and then add in the butter.

  3. Rub the butter into the flour mixture.

  4. Add in the beaten egg and milk.

  5. Combine all the ingredients until a soft dough is formed, you may need to add a little extra milk if doesn't come together easily.

  6. Turn onto a lightly floured board and knead gently for a minute or two.

  7. Roll out into a rectangular shape.

  8. Spread the Cinnamon Butter out all over the rectangle, using a pallet knife to make spreading easier.

  9. Then just like making a Swiss Roll, roll from the longest side opposite you towards you until the dough resembles a long log. (If you want to be really creative you could roll it half way towards the center from one side then half way towards the center from the other side, so that you end up with a curl in the middle!).

  10. Cut the log into 8 even pieces, and arrange cut side down in a greased baking pan.

  11. Sprinkle a little brown sugar over the top and place in a preheated oven for 25 minutes until lovely and golden brown - the butter and sugar will be gently bubbling and oozing out to make a delicious sweet crust on the Cinnamon Swirls!

  12. Allow to cool for a few minutes before placing on a wire tray to cool completely.
